What is a mandatory report?

Since the 1960’s, every state has adopted laws that requires certain individuals that have relationships with children, either as a teacher, or a therapist or a doctor for example, to report reasonable suspicion of child abuse including child sexual abuse to law enforcement authorities. These laws have come about because of the lack of reporting that historically has been the case when it comes to the abuse of children for a number of reasons. The states adopted law requires certain care providers and certain people involved with children as professionals to report any suspicion of child abuse to law enforcement.
